On his best lap, Leclerc covered -with a soft tire- the 7,004 meters of the legendary Belgian track in one minute, 44 seconds and 216 thousandths, 630 less than his German teammate Sebastian Vettel.

They have more problems at Mercedes that we will see if they can get Hamilton’s car ready for qualifying. The Mercedes ended up against the wall in the last sector and destroyed the front of the car. If the chassis is not damaged I would have no problem taking part of the session. Mechanics work nonstop trying to fix it.

Despite everything, it does not seem that the Mercedes are able to snatch pole position from the men in red who have a faster car, especially in the first section of the track. Involved at the beginning of the second lap of the race in a chilling collision with the American Juan Manuel Correa and the Japanese Marino Sato, the French driver died of his injuries while Correa has been taken to the hospital with several broken legs. Sato has emerged unscathed from the incident.

The accident took place on one of the fastest parts of the Belgian circuit, the Raidillon de l’Eau Rouge, where the track rises sharply after a descent.
